For the first time since arriving to the DC metro area, I finally walked around the Tidal Basin, which has the Jefferson Memorial. In the 1880s the city first constructed this reservoir in order to drain water from the Washington Channel, and twice a day the tides sweep away the water from the basin. During the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Tidal Basin is one of the focal points.
