The Cherry Blossom Festival first started in 1935, but the cherry trees and their annual blooming in early spring had already become a regular symbol for the capital. The Japanese donated the trees in 1912, and today the festival still celebrates Japan and Asia. On the first day of the festival, I took the metro into DC to walk around the Tidal Basin and photograph the trees around the monuments. Here are some of the photos I took next to the Washington Monument, but I'll post more photos soon.
