The couch where I sit while looking for jobs online is next to a huge window overlooking the Virginian cul-de-sac. One late afternoon as the sun was beginning to set, I looked out the window and saw how the sunlight was filtering through the leaves and onto a street lamppost just outside the front door. This lighting reminded me of something a photography professor once asked me, "Which would make a more interesting subject for a photograph- the bark on a regular neighborhood tree, or a ruined castle?" The answer: it depends. If the lighting is right, the bark on the tree will make a much better subject than the ruined castle. It's all about the lighting. Without good lighting, a photograph will never look interesting, regardless of the subject.
